Billy Joe Stevens

Mr. Billy Joe Stevens, age 80, of Gladewater, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. Billy was born in Gilmer on August 24, 1939 to the late Claude M. Stevens and Ida Mae Bailey Stevens. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, retired machinist of 35 years at American Can Co. in Longview, devoted member, volunteer, Sunday School Teacher, and Deacon at First Baptist Church of Gladewater. He loved woodworking, building things big and small for his family, friends, and church. Billy was a friend to all, and will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Laverne Elliot Stevens on January 16, 2003; brother, Jackie Stevens; and sister, Miriam Hagler.
He is survived by a son, Jody Stevens of League City; daughter, Fay Mumford and husband Joe of Pritchett; brothers, Harold Stevens and wife Juanita of Bear City, UT., Lee Stevens and wife Ann of Gilmer; grandchildren, Brandon Mumford, Amber Poe; great-grandchildren, Andrew Mumford, and Colton Mumford.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Croley Funeral Home of Gladewater with Bro. Bailey Harris officiating; interment will be at Gladewater Memorial Park; the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Croley Funeral Home of Gladewater.
