Billie Jay Spencer

Graveside services for Billie Jay Spencer, 87, of Gilmer will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Soules Chapel Cemetery in Upshur County with Bro. Todd Jordan officiating under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Ms. Spencer passed away on November 4, 2013, in Longview. She was born on December 16, 1925, in Enon Community, Upshur County, Texas to Horace Jay and Jane Barbara Purcell Spencer. Mrs. Spencer graduated from SMU Nursing School and worked as a head nurse for Texaco in Port Arthur, Texas and then World Wide. She lived in Upshur County since 1991. She is survived by brother, Jack Spencer, sisters, Jo Newman, Meta Kay Ward and Beverly Hairston. Ms. Spencer was preceded in death by her brothers, Perry, Harold "Dink" and Hargus "Rusty" Spencer; sister, Sarah E. Marsh. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 6, from 5:00 P.M. until 7: 00 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home.
