Bettye Lou Smith

Bettye Lou Smith, age 85, passed away January 10, 2022 in Gilmer, Texas.
Bettye Lou was born June 15, 1936 to Ray and Johnnie Lou Sorrells, in Gilmer, Texas. She was a graduate of Gilmer High School, where she later taught for many years. Her love for travel was well known by all who knew her, as was her fondness for desserts. No matter the day, she was always ready to welcome friends with a cup of coffee, sweets, and a smile.
Bettye Lou is survived by her son, Tommy Smith and wife, Melinda, of Gilmer; brother-in-law Ken Smith and wife, Jeannie Kay of Gilmer; sisters, Sue Griffin and LaJuan Snider and husband, Joe, of Plano; grandsons, Brad Smith of Denver and Ryan Smith and wife, Elizabeth, of Longview; granddaughters, Kayla Smith and husband, Colton Speight, of Longview, and Kara Smith of Allen; and great-granddaughters, Eliza and Addison Speight. She is preceded in death by her husband, Don, and daughter, Teri.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 14, 2022 under the direction of Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer, with Steve Dean officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Bettye’s memory to a charity of choice.
