Betty Jean Arrington

Mrs. Betty Jean McCurry Arrington, age 84, of Longview, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Pine Tree Lodge Care Center in Longview. Betty was born in Gilmer on June 14, 1935, to the late Dewey and Loretta Clutch McCurry. She enjoyed working as an aide at the Gilmer Nursing Home for many years. She was a dedicated homemaker and caregiver, affectionately known as “Momma” or “Granny” by everyone in her life. She was of the Baptist faith, a strong believer in the power of God. Before her illness, Betty loved planting and caring for her flowers, and vegetable garden, and arts and crafts. She had a passion for cooking, especially her meatloaf, her famous pound cake, and pimento cheese sandwiches. She also loved to shop, and bargain hunt garage sales, flea markets, and of course Macfrugals, to find a treasure to spoil her beloved grandchildren with. She enjoyed watching Days of our Lives and Touched by an Angel. Her family and grandchildren were most important in her life, and she cherished her time with them. She married Billy Arrington on October 3, 1981, in Forney, they enjoyed 37 years together. She was welcomed into Heaven, by her parents; two brothers, Earl Spence, Dewey McCurry, Jr.; a son-in-law; two grandsons, Justin Broad, Steven Hicks; and her children’s father, Lavon Hicks. She is survived by her loving husband, Billy Arrington of Longview; four children, Jesse Hicks and wife Reba of Gilmer, Melvonda “Mel” Broad of Longview, Carolyn Schools and husband Glenn of Ft. Worth, Donny Hicks and wife Julie of Gilmer; twelve grandchildren, numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Maggie Williams of Hawkins, Ina Roberson of Gilmer, Sally Holiday and husband Bill of Albuquerque, NM.; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Pine Tree Lodge for the many years of excellent care, and also Texas Home Health. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home of Gilmer. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 19, 2019​,​ at Concord Cemetery in Upshur County, Bro. Randy Tyree officiating. Mason Broad, Colby Rush, Jesse Hicks, Peyton Broad, Braden Khan,and Jamie Broad will serve as pallbearers. Lunch will be provided for the family and friends at the Lighthouse Church in Longview, 5925 W Marshall Ave, Longview, TX 75604. ​​
