Betty Chastain

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Jo Chastain, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and cherished member of the Harleton community. Betty was born on July 26, 1935, to James E. Cooper and Eva Lenora Clawson-Cooper. She joyfully graced this world with her warmth and kindness until she departed on April 25, 2025, at the age of 89.

Betty's life was a testament to love and resilience. She is survived by her devoted son, Roger Smith and daughter in love Rose, who was always by her side, her dear sister, Mary Keith, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren an many great-great grandchildren.  Betty was known for her nurturing spirit and her capacity to bring comfort to those around her, creating memories that will forever hold a place in the hearts of her family and friends.

A graveside service will be held to honor and celebrate Betty's remarkable life on April 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Center Cemetery in Harleton, Tx. with Rev. Craig Evers and Rev. Don Bean officiating. We invite all who knew and loved her to gather and share in remembrance, as we come together to reflect on the impact she had on our lives.

In this time of mourning, we find solace in the cherished memories that will continue to shine brightly, reminding us of the love and joy that Betty brought into our lives. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Rex Chastain, Parents James and Eva Cooper, Son Kevin Chastain, Sisters Emma Smith and Lenora Townsend, Granddaughter Melissa Brittian.
