Mrs. Bertie "Mary Ellen" Thomas of Hawkins, Texas, passed away peacefully, with her family at her bedside on Monday, 3 October 2022. She was born 29 September 1933 in Marshall, Texas to Ellen Holmes and George W. Page. She leaves behind two loving daughters, Rebecca with her husband Craig Dutiel of Hawkins, Texas, and Ellen with her husband Ronnie West of Central, South Carolina.
Mrs. Bertie is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, LCDR George Bronson Thomas USN (Ret) born in Big Sandy, Texas and two sons, Michael Thomas and Eugene Thomas.
As a military spouse, Mary Ellen traveled extensively in her eighty-nine years, setting up the family home in numerous states beginning with Maryland in 1950, to Washington DC, Virginia, Florida, California, Nevada, South Carolina, Naples, Italy and finally back to Texas in 2017. Throughout that time, Mary loved her family, her country, her military and civilian friends, her animals, the study of British royal history, her interior decorating and most importantly, her God. She was a Christian of Full Gospel Pentecostal faith. She looked forward to joining her loved ones in Heaven.
Mrs. Bertie will be missed by her children, eight grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and one very special great-great granddaughter Lettie. She will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery where she will be placed beside her husband, with services at a later date.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, that consideration be made of (KJV) Luke 12:48 "For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required." Mary had a special place in her heart for our American Veterans, our Military Families, and Wounded Warriors
