Funeral services for Bertha Mae (Bert) Stevens, age 92 of Longview, Texas, will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 9, 2013, at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater, Texas. Pastor Charles Chargois and Bishop A D Spears are officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Wood County, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Mrs. Stevens passed early Friday September 6, 2013, at Margaret's House Beacon Hospice in Longview, Texas. She had resided with her youngest son Jerry and his wife Linda since August 2011. Mrs. Stevens, better known to family and friends as Granny, was born in Wood County, Texas, to Lewis Henry and Bertha Elliot Williams Harper on September 28, 1920. She was a homemaker, Mother and faithful wife to her husband of fifty-three years. She had a strong Christian faith and was a longtime member of the Pentecostal church. most recently attending Calvary Tabernacle, Longview, Texas. Her husband J.D., son, Doyal, daughter, Margaret, one grandchild and one step-grandchild preceded her in death. Also, her parents, five sisters and one brother preceded her in death. One daughter Irma Sue Davenport and husband Ray, one son Jerry Don and wife Linda (who provided care for Granny during her final two years) survive her. Eight grandchildren with five spouses, three step-grandchildren with two spouses, seven great-grandchildren and ten step-great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and one step-great-great grandchild also survive her. All will miss Granny, as her love for her grandkinds was boundless and shared with all. Pallbearers will be Don Stevens, James Bradley, Jadee Stevens, Josh Stevens, David Williamson and Billy Harper. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 8, 2013, at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater, Texas.
