Barbara Holder Johnston

Mrs. Barbara Holder Johnston, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, in Tyler. Barbara was born on November 24, 1933, in Tyler to the late Gaylord Wesley Holder and Eldice Head. She was a 1951 graduate of Tyler High School and completed her studies at the Tyler Federal Institute of Business in 1952. She worked as an Administrative Assistant from 1952 until 1965. While working for Pan American Petroleum she met Billy Ray Johnston. Shortly after their marriage; Barbara transitioned into a loving homemaker staying home to raise Wes and Wendy. In 1987 when Wendy started High School; Barbara went to work at the Registrar’s Office at the Gladewater High School until retiring in 1998. Barbara was a longtime devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Gladewater; where she taught Kindergarten Sunday school for over 48 years. She was always very active and enjoyed doing ceramics, reading, crossword puzzles, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Barbara loved her grandchildren and cherished every moment with them. She will not soon be forgotten by all the loving family and friends she leaves behind.

Barbara is survived by her children Wes Johnston and wife Dianne of Chandler and Wendy Stanley and husband John of Prosper; sister Shirley Wilkins and husband Bill of Chandler; four grandchildren Taylor Johnston, Camryn Johnston, Cole Stanley and Luke Stanley as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Billy Ray Johnston.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 31, 2021, in the Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gladewater with Bro. Bailey Harris officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Gladewater.
