Aubrey Gail Leverett Stanley passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, in Gilmer, TX at the age of 73. She was born October 20, 1951 in Gladewater, TX and was a lifelong resident of East Texas. Aubrey is survived by two daughters; Poppy Kennimer and Jennifer Kennimer both of Gilmer, grandchildren: Jericha Dethlefs (Eric) of Philadelphia, PA, Max Elwell of Gilmer, Avery Hillis of Fayetteville, Ark and Thomas Hillis of Fayetteville, Ark, Jessica Hilton (Kevin) of Bullard, and Raigan Maddox (Mark) of Gilmer; as well as multiple great grandchildren and brother Harold Leverett of Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy Stanley, parents Aubrey and Dean Leverett, sisters Marian and Sarah Leverett, and grandson Johnathon Elwell.
Pericles said, “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” Aubrey leaves imprints on her community through her relationship with Christ that she eagerly shared with others, and a sense of humor evidenced by her pleasure in recounting the scandalously low-neck dress she donned as the Lady Godiva themed lady-in-waiting in the 1969 Yamboree court.
Friends of her children will remember the importance of family time she shared through Sunday night pancake dinners and homemade baked goods, most notably strawberry or carrot cake, for any occasion. She passed on the value of writing thank you notes to acknowledge the kindness of friends and the respect shown by setting a complete table when sharing a meal with people you care about, not to mention a questionable love of unsweet tea (always extra ice) and her eternally platinum blonde hair. The memories she wove into the lives of others will be her legacy.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Lana Baird for her unyielding loyalty and care.
A visitation will be held at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer on Thursday, October 31, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a memorial service starting at 6:00 PM.
