Funeral services for George Arthur Franklin Walsh, Sr., 63, of Hallsville, Texas will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gladewater, Texas with Reverend Teddy Sorrells officiating. Burial will follow in Gladewater Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday, June 14, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Walsh died Saturday, June 11, 2011 in Longview, Texas. He was born October 27, 1947 in Imperial, Nebraska to the union of John Franklin and Fern Lavica (Statan) Walsh. Mr. Walsh the U.S. Army at age 17 and served 20 years including a year in the Vietnam War and numerous other duty stations earning many medals and awards. He took great pride as a drill instructor teaching young men to serve their country. His last duty station was at Northeast Louisiana State University (ULM) in Monroe, Louisiana as Rifle Team coach. After his military career he worked as a mechanic. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Walsh, Hallsville, Texas; son, George A.F. Walsh, Jr., DeRidder, Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law: Malana and Aaron Kimball, DeRidder, Louisiana; mother of his children, Myra Jo Boozer, DeRidder, Louisiana; three stepsons, Arnold (Angie) West, Kilgore, Texas; Duane West, Hallsville, Texas; Darren (Traci) West, Nacogdoches, Texas; six grandsons, Matthew Leger and Jeremy Kimball, DeRidder, Louisiana; Jefferey Whitaker, Trey West, Sam West and Dalton Thompson, seven granddaughters; Brandy (Doug) Williamson, April West, Leslie West, Briatni West, Ashley West, Sydni Taylor and Raylee Ann West, one great-grandson, Leiland Hart all of East Texas, six sisters, Fern Lawson, Elfrieda, Arizona; Aggie Gregory, Tyler, Texas; Linda Mckenzie, California; Marion Phillips, Bristol, Tennessee; Doris Tatlow, Yuma, Arizona and Leona Hardin, Poteau, Oklahoma, and a host of nieces, and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Walter Tatlow and John Tatlow. Pallbearers will be: Matthew Leger, Jeremy Kimball, Aaron Kimball, Jimmie Hendrix, Kyle Gregory and Trevor Gregory. The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice and Margaret"s House, Dr. Margaret Schottstaedt, Dr. Stacey Holder, the A Wing staff, his nurse Gayle Robinson, aide Judy Murphy, Social Worker, Lisa Rogers and Chaplin, Reverend David Badders for their devoted care and concern given to him and our family. We also want to thank the Step-Down Unit at the Shreveport VA Hospital and Joy Baptist Church.
