Armand Eugene Nelms, died June 6, 2014, after several years of battling with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born February 2, 1928 in Brownwood, Texas to Arthur and Ruth Nelms. He attended elementary school in Durant, Oklahoma and finished his high school years in Dallas, Texas. Armand (Gene) enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1949. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was called to Mexico to go and teach and spread the Gospel of Christ. There, he helped build and institute several Baptist churches, and preached the gospel to help lead others to Christ. He returned from Mexico, with his family, and moved to East Texas. There, he continued serving the Lord while building a family business, where he built molds for the plastics industry. Armand's (Gene's) passion in life were serving God, his family, being a sailor, flying and aircraft. He owned and piloted his own private airplane and did his best to pass on his passion to his family, including his youngest daughter. Armand was a devoted husband and father. His passion for helping others in spreading the Word of God never faltered, as neither did his sparkling wittiness about him. His life, impacted so many, in a positive way, and for that we are blessed. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Nelms, sister, Sarah Griffin, son, James W. Nelms, and daughter, Andrea Nelms Suarez. He is survived by his wife Hilda Nelms, the love of his life. Sons: Arthur Nelms of Mason Tx, Armand Nelms of Ft. Worth Tx, and Alberto Ayala of Gilmer Tx. Daughters: Karen Keller of San Antonio Tx, Janie Mesa of Ft. Worth Tx, Carmen Skinner of Ft. Worth, Lola Nelms of Gilmer Tx, Laura Watson of Paris Tx, and Gina Osborn of Longview Tx and numerous Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Memorial service will be held 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Primera Iglesia Bautista in Gilmer, TX
