Amelia Kay (Wright) Scott peacefully left mortal existence on Friday, May 3rd, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Marshall, Texas to Neal and Nelda (Campbell) Wright on August 20, 1957. She was welcomed home as the baby sister of Leon and Gaynelle.
Millie worked at Anvil in Longview where she met her sweetheart, Shawn Scott. They married and moved to Kelsey in March of 1982. It was there that she was introduced to the gospel of Jesus Christ by faithful neighbors and took the missionary discussions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized July 31, 1982.
Amelia is the mother of Chrystal (Justin) Erickson of Longview, Neal (Kelly) Scott of Tyler and Stormy (Cole) Scott of Greenville. She has 9 grandchildren Paige, Adam, Billy, Jayden, Shawna, Madison, Harper, Destiny, and Camry. She spent a lifetime serving her family and community in many capacities.
If you were looking for Millie Scott, depending on the season of her life you could find her any number of places but mainly: at the Tefteller dairy barn cleaning, in the kitchen cooking for her family or someone she felt needed some extra love, chaperoning a school function, delivering lunch or something we forgot to her children, in the library at church, a cemetery or court house looking for dates of an ancestors, at the rodeo arena where ever she was needed, searching for family names in the genealogy library, working in a concession stand, on the ball field, organizing a dance or a party, behind a camera or sorting photo orders, behind the wheel taking someone to the doctor or babysitting grandbabies.
Amelia's life was spent in service to others. She LOVED and adored her FAMILY the most. She is known by many as: Momma, Millie, Aunt Millie, MeeMaw, Sis, but her favorite title is when her grandbabies called her "MINE".
Amelia is preceded in death by her parents, husband Shawn, granddaughter Shawna Scott, brother Leon Wright, in-laws Ray and Ruth Scott and brother-in-law Mike Turner & Tim Scott.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children and grandchildren, sister Gaynelle Turner, brothers and sisters-in-law: David (Naomi) Scott, Judy (John) Reynolds, Mark (Cindy) Scott, Pam Scott, Diane Wright and countless number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
If you knew Millie Scott, you know she did all she did Millie's way. Even so much that her hospice nurses described her as “spicy” telling her own story, and would just glow when that side shined forth. They loved it and loved her just how she was and to that we are grateful.
There will be a visitation Monday, May 6, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer. Funeral Service will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Gilmer with Samuel Flores presiding, under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Interment will follow at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Upshur County.
The family would like to express our love and sincere gratitude to all those that have helped care for momma these past 10 years, but especially her “best friend” and wonderful caregiver Donna Henson, and her husband Gary, mom's nurses Jessica, Danna, Jesi and all the staff at Traditions Hospice that helped us navigate through this difficult disease.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - Family History Library or to Nantz National Alzheimer Center at Houston Methodist Hospital in her honor.
