Alvin Dale Johnson

Alvin Dale Johnson, 60, of Gilmer passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013, in Longview. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Alvin was born on December 17, 1952, in Gilmer to L. A. and Rosene Warren Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a lifetime residence of Gilmer, who owned and solely operated Alvin Johnson"s Machine Shop. He was a hard worker, loved cars, car shows and still has his 1955 Chevy that he had at the age of 15. Alvin never met a stranger; he enjoyed spending time with all of his friends at his shop. He was a great husband, father, and pawpaw and he will be greatly missed. He married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Barbara Newsome on July 6, 1973, and she survives him. Mr. Johnson is also survived by daughters, Shelly Johnson of Gilmer, Amy Johnson Shields and husband, Robert of Gilmer; grandson, Trey Shields of Gilmer; his mother, Rosene Johnson of Gilmer; sisters, Ann Davidson of Gilmer and Rhonda Lawson of Gilmer; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Gary Davis of Gilmer and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his father, L. A. Johnson and brother, Leon Johnson.
