Graveside services for Mr. Alvin D. Callaway, 88 of Big Sandy, will be held Saturday, 10:00 A.M, October 18, 2014, at Locust Grove Cemetery in Upshur County, Texas wit Bobby Barnett and Donny Sapp officiating under the direction of Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer. Mr. Callaway passed away in Gilmer on October 9, 2014 He was born on May 22, 1926, in Wichita Falls, Texas to George Dickerson Callaway and Waneta Irene Weatherford Callaway. Mr. Callaway served his country in the U. S. Navy. He was a minister and a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Callaway is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Deborah Callaway of Big Sandy, Troy and Angel Callaway of Victoria, TX, Les and Mrae Callaway of Flagstaff, Arizona; daughters and sons-in-law, Lorene and Bobby Barnett of Roswell, NM., Clara and Earnest Cardona of Farmington, NM., Rachael Callaway of Idaho Springs, CO.; sisters, Glorigean Brock of Truth or Consequences, NM., Jeanette Clinton of Gainesville, TX; 20 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 66 years, Essie Callaway; daughter, Mary Callaway; sons, Carl Callaway; 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Pallbearers will be Roy Callaway, Troy Callaway, Robert Barnett, Travis Callaway, Tim Weldy and William Callaway. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 17, 2014, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M at the funeral home.
